Blocked drains are one of the most prevalent plumbing issues that individuals face every day in Australia and throughout the world. Because blockages can occur when you least anticipate them, it is important to be prepared to cope with one. If left untreated, blockages can cause water to seep from your drains, potentially causing damage to your house or company. Severe obstructions can also lead to burst pipes, which might necessitate much more expensive repairs. Here are the major solutions for clearing clogged drains.

    Water Is Boiling

Pouring a pot of boiling water into a clogged drain is a quick and easy remedy. In many situations, this is sufficient to remove or dissolve the obstruction without resorting to more extreme procedures. This procedure should only be used on metal or ceramic pipes, as heat can cause PVC pipe joints to loosen. Instead of boiling water, use hot, not boiling, tap water for PVC pipes. This procedure may be beneficial for grease or food buildup, but it is unlikely to work for solid obstructions.

    DIY Natural Cleaner

You may make your drain cleaner with bi-carb soda (baking soda) and white vinegar. Cover the drain to keep the mixture from gushing out of the pipe. The chemical interaction between bi-carb and vinegar releases oxygen, which scours the interior of the pipes, cleaning them out. You may need to repeat the procedure a few times to completely remove the obstruction. After the combination has worked its way through the obstruction, flush your pipes with hot water to eliminate any lingering residue.

    Caustic Cleaner

Caustic chemical drain cleaners may be purchased at your local hardware shop or supermarket. These compounds are capable of dissolving grease, hair, food, and other typical clogs. They are, however, hazardous to the environment and should be used cautiously. Caustic cleaners will not operate on solid masses such as tree roots or tiny household objects. When working with chemical cleaners, always cover your hands and face, and flush your pipes with water afterward to remove any residual chemicals.

    Plunger

A plunger can unclog a clogged drain just as easily as it can unclog a clogged toilet. Cover any overflow spouts before diving to ensure a firm seal. The plunger’s up-and-down pressure can assist to release any obstructions, allowing your pipes to flow smoothly once again. Plunging is most efficient for solid obstructions, although it is ineffective for grease buildup and mineral deposits.

    Hydro-Jet

Hydro-jets push a forceful stream of water through your pipes. The produced pressure then drives the obstruction through the pipes and out, allowing water to flow again. This procedure is far safer for your pipes than snaking, although it is less successful against solid clogs. Although you may try hydro-jetting on your own, it is probably best to leave this procedure to a professional plumber in Sydney who has the appropriate skills.

    Excavation

In the most extreme circumstances, your pipelines may require complete excavation. A plumber can pinpoint the exact site of the obstruction and determine which pipe has to be removed. The plumber can repair or replace the pipe in concern after excavating the dirt around it. The dirt may then be filled back in around the new pipe, returning your property to its previous condition. Because this sort of job may be extremely intricate, it is recommended to leave it to a skilled plumber.
